What are GP online services?

GP online services will help you to take greater control of your health and wellbeing by increasing online access to services. You have been telling us that you want to be offered more convenience, choice, and control in how you access GP services. Increasingly, you also want to be informed and involved in decisions about care and treatment. Evidence shows that patients who are informed and involved in their own care have better health outcomes and are less likely to be admitted to hospital.

Making sure everybody is included

We recognise that computers, tablets, and smartphones are not a substitute for visiting or phoning your surgery and health services and that many people do not have access to computers or services.

To help address this, NHS England is delivering a national programme of training in digital skills and access to technology, aimed at people who might otherwise not be able to use online.

Visit www.ukonlinecentres.com or phone 0800 77 1324.

Register with a letter

Ask your practice for a Patient Access registration letter. When you collect the letter from your practice, you'll need to take proof of identity (e.g. your driving license or passport) with you. When you have a registration letter, use the steps below to set up your Patient Access account:

Go to https://patient.emisaccess.co.uk/register

Below the question 'Have you received a registration letter from your practice', select Yes.

Complete the details, using the information from the registration letter.

TIP: You should only enter your NHS number if it is included in the registration letter. Leave the field blank if it is not. Type your personal details, create a password (this should be longer than six characters and contain at least one number and one letter), and then complete the security questions. If you complete the security questions, you'll be able to reset your own password if you forget it in the future.

If you don't complete them, you'll need to ask your practice to reset your account. Make a note of the user ID that's generated for you, as you'll use this to sign in to Patient Access from now on. Register online If you live in England, you can register for Patient Access without a letter, using the steps below to create a basic Patient Access account. To complete the registration and get a fully active account, you need to take proof of identity to your practice and ask them to complete your registration.

TIP: Not all practices allow patients to register online.

If this option is not available once you have entered your practice's postcode, you will need to collect a registration letter from them. Go to https://patient.emisaccess.co.uk/register

Below the question 'Have you received a registration letter from your practice', select No.

Follow the instructions to find your GP practice.

To complete the registration and get a fully active Patient Access account, take proof of identity to your practice and ask them to complete your registration. IMPORTANT: Tickets can only be raised for Medical practices in England. If your practice is outside England, please raise your query directly with your Medical practice.
