National Eye Health Week

National eye health week is about raising awareness which takes place this year from Monday 23rd September 2019 until Friday 27th September 2019 promoting and educating people about the importance of eye health. This will be the seventh annual National Eye Health Week. The main aim of National Eye Health Week is to create a community that is free from the impact of sight loss.There are currently over 2 million people living in the UK who live with sight loss, which has a significant impact on their daily lives. It is predicted that by 2030 the number will increase to over 2.7 million people.

World Thrombosis Day 2017

World Thrombosis Day (WTD) is recognised every year on the 13th of October and focuses attention on the often overlooked and misunderstood condition of thrombosis so hundreds of educational events occur in countries around the world. The key objectives of the campaign involve increasing global awareness of thrombosis including the causes, risk factors, signs/symptoms, with prevention and treatments available to prevent this condition.

World Mental Health Day 2017

The main theme is based on workplace wellbeing. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing. Mental health affects how we think, feel and act and also helps to determine how we handle stress, relate to others, how we make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood to adulthood.

Go Sober For October

Go Sober for October is a fundraising campaign aimed at challenging social drinkers to change their habits for a month and make some healthier lifestyle changes. The purpose of Sober for October is to encourage people to drink alcohol responsibly and stick to the recommended daily guidelines for the rest of the year. Go Sober for October involves 31 days without alcohol and instead of wasting money on buying alcohol you end up raising money for people living with cancer they partner with Macmillan Cancer Support for a positive cause in helping others suffering from cancer.

Jeans For Genes Day 2017

There are between 4000 to 6000 diagnosed genetic disorders. It is estimated that 1 in 25 children are affected by a genetic disorder and therefore 30,000 babies and children are newly diagnosed in the UK each year. Jeans for Genes Day is the annual fundraising campaign for Genetic Disorders UK, the national charity supports individuals and families affected by a genetic disorder.

NHS must utilise advances in technology or will be playing catch up in the healthcare industry

An article by Richard Vize published in the Guardian on Friday September 8th 2017, makes some interesting statements regarding the adoption (or lack of it) in NHS and primary healthcare. Vize commentates on the UK wide inspections by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), who have vowed inspect all online pharmacies by the end of the calendar year. So far, the reports have been heavily focused around the technology being used by healthcare industry players and how technology can be better utilised to improve the safety of healthcare services in the UK.
