New guidelines for Online Pharmacies require us to diagnose a condition before offering prescription medicines to a patient. Here at NationWide Pharmacies, our doctors have been working hard to develop an online asthma diagnostic service. This new service will provide our patients with an accurate diagnosis of their condition. Following the diagnosis, our doctor will be able to issue a free private prescription as usual.
This new diagnostic procedure takes a little more time than our previous method of consultation but the good news is it is only required once and it will provide you with a very accurate diagnosis.

Once your online diagnosis is complete you will be able to purchase your acne treatment as usual. Three months from the date of your diagnosis our doctor will send you a medical review form to monitor your progress on the treatment and renew your free private prescription if necessary
Male-pattern baldness is the most common type of hair loss, affecting 6.5 million men in the UK.
MPB It generally starts with a little thinning of the hair, followed by wider hair loss, allowing more of the scalp to become visible. Around 50% of men will suffer some hair loss by the age of 50 and a majority of men will suffer some degree of hair loss at some point in their life.
Male-pattern baldness is not a disease, so it won’t affect your health, however, for a few men, this process starts as early as the late teens and can cause great emotional distress associated with a lack of self-esteem and, in some cases, depression.
Treatments
Treatments can slow down the process, but there’s no cure. The two most effective treatments for male-pattern baldness (also called androgenetic alopecia) are minoxidil and finasteride. Other treatments for hair loss include wigs, hair transplants and plastic surgery procedures, such as scalp reduction.
NationWide Pharmacies provides private prescriptions for Propecia (finasteride) hair loss treatments.
Propecia (Finasteride) | |

Propecia helps promote hair growth for men suffering from the onset of male pattern baldness. The active ingredient finasteride is a 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor which works by reducing the levels of the hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone) in the scalp and restoring a normal hair growth cycle. Clinical tests showed that two-thirds of men that used the treatment saw a visible improvement in hair growth over a 2 year period and that 4 out 5 saw a decrease in hair loss. Important Information
If you do see improvements and stop taking Propecia you will lose any hair gained using the treatment within a 12 month period. It is not known if Propecia works for a receding hairline on either side of and above your forehead (temporal area)
Propecia is for the treatment of male pattern baldness and as such should only be used by MEN ONLY and should NOT be used by women or children.
What causes male-pattern baldness?
Male-pattern baldness is a hereditary condition passed through family genetics. It is thought that the condition is caused by oversensitive hair follicles which are affected by the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is derived from the male hormone testosterone. If there is an imbalance, which causes too much DHT to be present the hair, the follicles undergo change making hair become thinner and reducing the growth rate of hair. The balding process is gradual starting with a receding hairline and then a thinning of the hair on the crown and temples.
Treatments for male pattern baldness:
Unfortunately, there is no cure for male-pattern baldness as it is a natural process. However, for people wanting to improve their appearance for cosmetic reasons can get a private prescription for finasteride. Studies have suggested finasteride can increase the number of hairs people have (hair count) and can also improve how people think their hair looks. It usually takes three to six months of continuously using finasteride before any effect is seen. The balding process usually resumes within 6 to 12 months if treatment is stopped. Side effects for finasteride are uncommon.
