Logynon 3 Month Calendar Pack

Logynon is a combined pill containing synthetic oestrogen and progesterone hormones (Ethinylestradiol 40mg & levonorgestrel 75mg). The treatment is taken for 21 days followed by a 7 day break. Always ensure that you take your pill at the same time each day for it to be effective. The course should be started no later than the fifth day of your period, to give immediate protection against pregnancy. If you start after your fifth period day you will need to use other means of contraception, condoms or sponge, for at least 2 days.

How Logynon works:

Each box of Logynon contains three strips of 21 tablets. Each of the strips contains 6 light brown tablets, 5 white tablets and 10 ochre tablets containing. Each set of pills contains a different dose of the active ingredients levonorgestrel and ethinylestradiol.

The pill prevents pregnancy in three ways by prevents the ovaries from releasing eggs, causing the lining of the cervix to thin stopping eggs from attaching and finally by causing thickening the mucus of the cervix which stops sperm from reaching an egg.
Always remember that the Pill will prevent unwanted pregnancy only and will not protect you from contracting AIDS or other sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s).

How effective is the Pill?

The Pill is more than 99% effective when used correctly. However this depends on women taking tablets exactly as required.

What are the benefits of taking Logynon?

Taken correctly this combined pill will give you immediate protection so sex will not be interrupted. Other benefits can include less painful periods, reduced PMT and a reduced risk of ovarian cysts and acne. There is also evidence that the pill may also reduce the risk of certain types of cancer such as ovarian, womb and colon.

Who may not be able to / may not want to use Logynon?

The combined pill formula may not be suitable for all women. You should consult your doctor if you are a smoker over 35 years of age, have a BMI 30kg/m, suffer from migraines, blood clots, circulatory problems, diabetes, breast cancer, liver disease, are allergic to oestrogen, pregnant or taking other medications.

Possible side effects of taking Logynon?

Like all medicines Logynon may produce side effects in some women. Possible side effects may include a temporary tenderness of the breasts, headaches, nausea and mood changes. Some women may also experience some breakthrough bleeding or spotting during their first course of the pill. Combined contraceptives may also increase the risk blood clots as well as a small increased risk of breast cancer/cervical cancer
